How do I prepare Leeks?

Leeks are really easy to prepare. Simply wash then remove the base and cut into even sized chunks. For some recipes you might like to slice the leeks thinly, or for others chop them – or even cook them whole.

Follow these simple instructions for whatever method you prefer.

All appliances vary, these are guidelines only. Check food is piping hot throughout before serving

HOB:

Place in a pan of boiling water. Reduce heat and simmer for 6 – 8 minutes or until tender.

Drain well before serving.

6 – 8 minutes

MICROWAVE:

Place in a non-metallic dish add 2 x 15ml (2 tbsps) of water.

Cook on full power or 800W. Leave to stand for 1 minute after cooking.

800W: 2 ½ minutes

STEAM:

Place in steamer for 8 – 10 minutes or until tender.

8-10 minutes

STIR FRY:

Heat a little oil in a heavy based frying pan or wok.

Stir fry for 6 – 7 minutes.
